Lounges and Communal Areas
Old Charlton House has 2 Lounges, the largest, is located on the ground floor leading to the spacious dining room that has French doors opening onto the patio and rear gardens where residents enjoy sitting outside during the summer months.
The smaller lounge is situated on the first floor and is mainly used as a quiet room. It is ideal for residents to take their visitors for a cup of tea or just to sit in the sun and relax. This room opens onto a balcony, a favourite spot for enjoying the sunshine or a sunset Gin and Tonic. Part of the small lounge is also equipped for use by our hairdresser for hairdressing once a week.
The main lounge on the ground floor is sometimes used as a location for activities but is large enough so that those not wanting to join in still have plenty of space to sit and relax without participating.
We have recently fitted a loop system to assist the hard of hearing. Our audio system also has a microphone system which is mainly used for activities and for residents meetings.
Both lounges have televisions and a favourite past time for some residents is to watch the news on the large flat screen television after their evening meal.
The home also has many communal areas where residents can sit and relax. There are tables and chairs available for those wishing to sit outside during the warmer months, and a gazebo for those who wish to sit in the shade.
There is a large area on the first floor landing which is very sunny and pleasant and where residents often meet to have their morning coffee as an alternative to the 2 lounges.
The dining room has lovely sea views and views over the garden and is not just reserved for mealtimes. It is sometimes used for arts and crafts and we encourage residents to use the dining room as another area where they may enjoy their coffee and reading the morning paper or take their visitors for a cup of tea and a chat as an alternative to their bedrooms or the lounges.
